Position Title:  Application Engineer

Department:    Product Engineering

Overall Purpose of Job:

Assist internal and external customers in defining product needs and promoting engineered solutions.

Major Responsibilities:

-  Work closely with the Sales department in support of new business acquisition

-  Collaborate with customer engineers in new application development

-  Ensure that product designs meet or exceed customer requirements, manufacturability requirements, and are under budget

-  Clearly convey customer technical requirements to product engineering

-  Raise concerns when customer designs or requirements are not in line with best practices

-  Provide design direction and support to customer designers, and provide counseling and assistance as needed to Customer

-  Support prototype requirements to evaluate design and manufacturing criteria

-  Facilitate flow of information between customers and disciplines

-  Convey key customer deliverables to internal departments

-  Become knowledgeable on existing parts and bookshelf technology for use in new applications

-  Lead technical presentations and reviews with the customers

-  Understand and adhere to IATF16949 procedure specific to department

Key Competencies:

-  Must have experience interfacing with customers, particularly engineering

-  Good communication skill on technical and business issues

-  Strong root-cause analysis and problem-solving skills

-  Must be creative and able to translate concepts into engineering documentation

-  Works well in a multi-site multi-functional team

-  Is flexible and adapts easily to changing situations or inputs

-  Develops effective relationships with internal and external team members

Education and Experience:

-  Bachelor’s Degree in Plastics / Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience

-  A minimum of 3 - 5 years experience in Injection Molded Plastic Products required

-  Minimum 3 years Automotive Industry experience required

-  Experience with APQP process, particularly DVP&R and DFMEA required

-  Knowledge of Automotive Component Products (i.e. Air Registers or PRVs) highly desirable

-  Must have a strong understanding of injection molded product design with a focus on designing for manufacturability

Organizational Chart:

This position reports to the Product Engineering Manager Air Flow Management North America and has no direct reports.
