Hi-Cone, a division of ITW, is a leading supplier of plastic-based multi-packaging systems for global beer, soft drink and general products industries.  We are currently looking for a 3rd shift Press and Extruder Operators.

3rd Shift: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM

POSITION SUMMARY:

Duties: Press: Work from Press Production reports, drawings and quality inspection sheets.

  • Select coil and material according to gauge, width and color
  • Load coils and unload finished material from the press machine.
  • Thread material, adjust feed length, checks carrier specifications according to print and make adjustments to maintain quality.
  • Adjust straightness of material for proper cut.
  • Clean printer and change ribbon on hot stamp printer as necessary.
  • Clean die, feed rolls and unwind rolls of dust and excess material as necessary.
  • Visually inspect and measure product with specified instruments for compliance with customer and manufacturing specifications.
  • Assemble finished product package, loads unitized pallet, prepares and bands pallet for shipping, obtain and apply accurate label information on reels and pallets and uses forklift or pallet jack to transport finished material to designated area.
  • Identify defects in sheet or carrier.
  • Maintain daily production log of output and scrap and record accurate measurements and other quality control data.
  • Move scrap material to the “re-grind” room and load material into grinders.
  • Splice fanfold properly.
  • Perform specified housekeeping tasks on each shift.

Duties: Extruder: Work from Material Ratio Work Sheets, Extrusion Part Reports and Extrusion Operational Checklists.

  • Perform all required start-ups, shut-downs and housekeeping duties.
  • Set up extruder machine by turning on blower, auger and screw control and setting melt pump, line speed and slitter width.
  • Select appropriate amount of virgin and regrind product based upon silo volumes.
  • Maintain optimal hopper and loading bin capacity and troubleshoot minor filling issues.
  • Adjust dies, pressure valves, haul off roll clearances and speeds and replaces screens as necessary.
  • Unload coils from winder and replace shafts and cores.
  • Maintain proper screw, barrel and temperatures. Notify Group Leader with problems.
  • Move scrap material to grinding room, grind scrap material and clean grinding room as necessary.
  • Visually inspect and clean dies by scrapping off burnt material.
  • Check oil pressure, temperature and oil flow in gear box and notify Maintenance personnel with any issues.
  • Monitor flatness profile on control panel and manually adjust die to increase flatness to maintain proper material specification.
  • Check coil samples for proper sheet width, thickness, camber and stress.
  • Identify defects in sheet material.
  • Use forklift and hoist to weight and move finished coils.
  • Mark finished coils with date, shift, weight, coil number and product number.
  • Maintain daily production log of output and scrap and records accurate measurement and quality control data.

Other Duties:

  • Follow safety rules and keep work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned including; performing Helper duties in any department as business needs dictate.

Equipment Used:

  • Forklift, overhead hoist, micrometers, scales, fixtures, extruder machine, grinding machine, hopper, loading bins, iron and assorted hand tools.

QUALIFYING REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; or one to three months related experience and/or training.
  • Forklift & Control Panel operation experience preferred
  • Physical requirements include: good speaking, hearing and vision ability, excellent manual dexterity, ability to lift and carry 25 to 60 pounds up to 3-5 hours a shift.
