The ITW Industrial Welding Platform is a $845 million market leader in the industrial welding market selling products to the GAWDA, International, Rental, Work Truck and other distribution channels for the heavy manufacturing, construction and fabrication, professional welders and other consumers in the U.S. and around the world. Major customers include Airgas, Praxair, Matheson, United Rental. The Platform owns some of the best known brands in welding including Miller, Hobart, Bernard, and Tregaskiss. The Platform has 6 multi-site divisions located in North America and Latin America.

The Platform Controller will report to the Welding Industrial Group President, based in Glenview, IL. The Platform Controller will be responsible for overseeing all Platform-level financial planning and business analysis activities. This role will be responsible for collaborating with the business teams to develop/execute business strategy and detailed business plans as well as the communication of those business plans to the segment senior management. The Platform Controller provides functional leadership for all aspects of Finance including financial planning and analysis, asset management and resource allocation including innovation/NPD, capital expenditures and restructuring, effective control infrastructure, M&A oversight, and contract review/negotiations. The candidate will also be responsible for directing and coordinating activities of a multi-site, global organization with 6 division controllers reporting to him or her on a dotted line.

  • Continuously build an intimate knowledge of the business, its customers, profit drivers, and operational capabilities including organic growth drivers, innovation, and supply chain along with a deep understanding of the competitive and market dynamics that drive strategy and operating results.
  • Ensure that the Group President and VP/GM's are supported effectively in decision-making and executing their strategies and operating plans by providing timely financial information and business performance evaluation as well as insightful and focused analysis.
  • Actively engage in overall strategy development for all divisions, including actionable business strategies with clear accountability and financial strategy.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of business financial information including actuals that follow ITW policies and US GAAP.
  • Embrace, understand and champion the application of 80/20 business process to significantly improve operating performance of businesses and effectively integrate new acquisitions.
  • Build and communicate logical annual operating and long range plans consistent with near-term requirements and long-term strategy. Assures forecast accuracy and accountable action plans to mitigate risk.
  • Directs financial analysis at the highest level to evaluate potential capital investments, acquisitions, new products, and business opportunities.
  • Develop and execute a compelling and logical strategy for the Finance function that is aligned with ITW's enterprise strategy and ensures achievement of business plans/financials.
  • Establish a strong 'tone at the top' related to ITW values, safety, business ethics and the law, and financial controls.
  • Provide energizing functional leadership with a focus on attracting, retaining, and developing top talent. Build and lead a value-add focused finance team that is integrally involved with the day-to-day plans and operations of the business. Selects and develops diverse, world class talent.
  • Be an effective partner and respected member of the Finance leadership teams. Build relationships to ensure effective team operations, transparency of reporting and decision-making and continuous high quality, strategic dialogue.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is required; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of applicable financial management experience in progressively responsible assignments preferably in public companies, and a minimum of three years of executive management experience leading professionals.
  • Operating finance responsibility of $200+ million business entity with multiple, global locations required.
  • Experience reporting to a senior line executive responsible for the profit and loss of a business unit preferred.
