Title:                Business Unit Manager       

Reports to:     Vice-President & General Manager (VP/GM)

Location:         Querétaro, Mexico (revenues - $35MM)

Provides leadership oversight to the business to include plant operations, warehousing, supply chain, and commercialization.  Direct manage to managers and individual contributors, indirect manager to all team members in the business unit. Has accountability for monthly, quarterly and annual performance / results of their business and manages a full range of functions (e.g. Manufacturing, Sales, Finance, Supply Chain, & HR etc.). Develops business unit plans to present for review by higher level management, including business, production and /or organizational priorities. Responsible for entire P&L of business unit. Business is diverse and complex, covering several channels and/or broad customer list. Span of business is single country, but likely to be multi-plant or facilities. Revenue responsibility typically $30 - $50 M. Reports to VP&GM.

  •  Strong Commercial Sales Acumen within Mexico market 


•          Set strategy and direction for driving long and short-term revenue growth targets 

•          Financial oversight and operational budgeting to ensure fiscal responsibility, including the ability to course-correct based on business conditions

•          Operational leadership of organization.  Manufacturing, supply, distribution, customer service and operational support functions

•          Provide leadership & mentoring over commercial functions; sales, marketing & innovation

•          Uses sales forecasting and strategic planning to ensure the sale and profitability of products; analyzing business developments and monitoring market trends

•          Build/manage relationships with existing and potential customers

•          Identify, develop, and evaluate marketing strategy, based on knowledge of established objectives, market characteristics, and pricing

•          Evaluate the financial aspects of product development, such as budgets, expenditures, research and development appropriations, and return on investment projections

•          Become the expert and drive key operating principles, with a focus on 80/20 simplification, portfolio segmentation, innovation and manufacturing best practices

Management Responsibilities

•          Controls expenses, manages a budget, and maintains required records. Submits required reports, documentation, and summaries as required by corporate policy and management of authority levels, and complies with Country laws & regulations

•          Serves as the Company representative on behalf of Mexico laws & regulations 

•          Drives culture changes / transformation to ensure team collaboration and confidence

•          Furthers/expands knowledge of automotive aftermarket industry through company training, trade journals, seminars, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Define Strategic Direction:
    • Align team with financial and business strategies through the planning cycle.  Provide clear summary of high level risks and opportunities for subsequent action planning
    • Develop and implement strategic growth initiatives, to deliver continued revenue growth and profitability
    • Assume overall responsibility for the financial performance of the Business Unit
  • Drive Organic Growth Through Effective Commercial Strategy
    • Drive organic sales growth while maximizing operating profit and return on invested capital
    • Drive Segmentation, Portfolio Strategy and PLS
    • Identify & execute product & channel strategies to drive profitable organic growth
    • Develop trust & credibility with ‘80’ customers

  • Deliver Operational Excellence
    • Establish effective KPIs and operational objectives that drive year-on-year improvement
    • Achieve optimal business unit operation through best-in-class capacity utilization, reliability and cost reductions using the Enterprise Strategy / 80/20 (PLS/MRD, etc.)
    • Lead and manage USa projects, in-lining, and MRD to meet 80 / 20 scorecard targets
    • Monitor supply chain metrics and drive improvements to meet and exceed targets
    • Responsible for efficiencies of manufacturing operation, ensuring manufacturing processes are capable of achieving quality, delivery, and cost targets. 
    • Maximize manufacturing by focusing on “80” product production to reduce inventory on slow moving products to maximize opportunity on high volume, high margin products
    • Leads and strives for a “Zero Accident / Injury Culture”
  • Demonstrate Great Leadership and Create an ITW Culture
    • Build a culture that is aligned to the ITW Business Model
    • Directly responsible for Sales, Operations/Manufacturing, Logistics/Warehouse, and Supply Chain departments.  In this role, there will be a dotted-line relationship to the R&D and Marketing functions, as those functional leads will report to the VP/GM.
    • Establish internal and cross functional operational rhythms to ensure alignment with business objectives, provide advice and oversight while implementing corrective action
    • Lead cross-functional leadership team to develop future growth strategies, improve the operating environment, and drive the culture change necessary to create sustainable profitable growth
    • Build collaborative relationships with functions (e.g., Sales and Marketing, HR, & Finance) across the Automotive Aftermarket (AAM) network and ITW to aide in building and operating a best in class organization


  • BS degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or related field, MBA preferred
  • At least 8 years of relevant management experience with demonstrated career progression
  • Strong influencing and collaboration skills-- ability to work cohesively with multiple stakeholders
  • Proven, consistent business improvement results, on both top and bottom line
  • Demonstrated expertise in defining and executing a business strategy, portfolio segmentation, short term and long-range growth plans
  • Strong operations / manufacturing background for inbound raw materials to outbound finished goods
  • Exceptional analytical and tactical capability.  Able to move seamlessly between the strategic and the tactical needs of the business 
  • Works well when under time pressure and delivery constraints
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. (Bilingual English & Spanish)
  • International business exposure and a high level of cultural awareness.  Familiarity with the Mexico marketplace a definite plus
  • Must exhibit the potential to become identified as a VP/GM succession candidate within 2 - 5 years.
  • Position is based in Mexico.  Ability to travel up to 30%.
