Diversity & Inclusion

An Integral Role in Our Business

Our ability to reach full potential as an enterprise requires high performing talent that brings unique perspectives, experiences, and ideas to the team. A diverse and deep talent pool enables us to deliver differentiated products and service levels to our customers.

In 2015, we established a D&I Framework in order to drive progress in establishing ourselves as a best-in-class employer with a global, diverse workforce and an inclusive workplace.

The four key areas of focus are:

Our leaders are charged with building and developing a diverse pipeline of talent, contributing to achieving our enterprise diversity goals and be a steward of our D&I initiatives.

Diverse backgrounds bring unique perspectives. In order to successfully compete in a global market, we must continue to focus on attracting and retaining the best talent reflective of our global communities.

Creating an environment where team members feel valued is critical. This includes promoting employee development, actively seeking different perspectives and supporting Employee Resource Groups.

We are committed to working diligently to strengthen and sustain our unique and differentiated enterprise brand. This includes sharing our progress and success and being an active member of our communities.

Enterprise Metrics

Since 2012, we’ve been tracking our D&I progress. In 2016, we again increased the percentage of our global leaders who are women, as well as the percentage of ethnically diverse leaders in the United States. ITW respects individuals and values their differences.

2016 D&I Data

ITW has made solid progress in the area of D&I over the last several years. This progress has allowed us to update our goals for 2020 and underscores our commitment to do even more.

D&I 2020 Goals

We are proud to be recognized as one of Black Enterprise’s 50 Best Companies for Diversity in 2016. We know that organizations with diverse teams perform better and ITW leaders play a critical role in ensuring that inclusion is core to our workplace culture.

Employee Resource Groups (ERG)

Part of how we actively participate is how we foster the skills, experience and careers of our diverse workforce.

The mission of the newly evolved ITW Women’s Network (IWN) is to maintain an inclusive workplace environment and attract, develop and retain quality female talent and leaders, in accordance with our enterprise strategy. Overseen by our Women’s Leadership Development Council, IWN is open to all businesses, functions and levels. In 2016, we established the network’s regional model by forming chapters across our various locations, which will host networking events, leadership development and skill-building seminars, and local outreach events.

Our Young Professionals Network (YPN) is dedicated to building a community made up of our junior-level talent. Since launching in 2014, membership has doubled, and in 2016 the ERG established regional chapters in Europe, Boston, Philadelphia, and Troy, Ohio. For its annual conference, YPN focused on the importance of personal development and received guidance from current ITW Great Leaders. In addition, YPN continued its participation in our community involvement initiatives, particularly the ITW David Speer Academy.

Launched in 2017, the mission of the African-American Network (AAN) is to enrich the professional development of African-American employees and advance diversity and inclusion through retention, development and recruitment of talent at ITW.
