The Training and Safety Manager will be responsible for driving safety culture transformation and will establish a comprehensive safety approach throughout Alpine.   A critical component for success in this role is the ability to influence and drive change across all levels of the organization. This position is responsible for establishing, communicating and implementing a safety strategy that truly places employee safety as the top priority across the business.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Act as partner to division/plant leadership and safety teams to enable and drive a safety culture that places employee safety first
  • Develops safety action plans collaboratively to encourage and sustain employee engagement, more robust safety processes and ultimately improved safety results
  • Regularly review measurements of EHS performance, audit results, incidents etc. and drive continuous improvement in corrective/preventative actions and EHS processes
  • Develop, review and ensure thoroughness of EHS procedures, JSA’s and assessment processes to include new hire and contractor safety orientation across all facilities
  • Develop, facilitate and deliver training on EHS elements
  • Performs audits throughout the facilities, identify safety hazards and take actions to remedy. Identify common issues across shifts, departments and facilities.
  • Drive behavioral observations/Interventions to assist in hazard reduction and cultural progress
  • Lead the investigation process for all incidents and near misses including corrective actions.

Ensure complete and timely submittal of required EHS reports from all sites

  • Assist team members with PPE and other safety related requirements
  • Openly communicate with and facilitate communication among plant personnel to share problems, identify issues and solutions
  • Assist team members with PPE and other safety related requirements
  • Act as liaison with government agencies (e.g.: OSHA, EPA) and serve as a facility management representative in case of inquiries and inspections to correct deficiencies and to minimize citations and fines for non-compliance.

Job Requirements

  • 3+ years of safety management experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial/chemical/mechanical engineering, safety or related field preferred
  • Key technical experience in ergonomics, machine guarding, control of hazardous energy, in addition to standard EHS competency
  • Strong commitment to improving safety performance and EHS compliance and management
  • Excellent understanding of manufacturing, technical and development activities and processes.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM) a plus
  • Ability to travel ~30%
  • Demonstrated practical knowledge of industry standard Health & Safety Principles
  • Basic understanding of OSHA/Cal-OSHA standards/requirements
  • Proficient in multi-tasking, organizing and prioritizing tasks / projects.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, coaching and mentoring skills
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
