The Sexton business fits within the ITW Drawform Division and is a market leader in the manufacture of high-pressure aerosol cans and after-market filter shells and is seeking an Automation technician for its Decatur, AL facility, located 30 minutes Southwest of the Huntsville area.

This position will supervise and lead employees in an established manufacturing environment that runs three 8-hour shifts. The incumbent will embody the safety culture, plan and assign work, coach and lead employees, manage interpersonal issues, implement policies and procedures, and will recommend improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions.

Job Requirements

Essential Functions:

•         Prioritize and oversee scheduling of production requirements by balancing quality, productivity, cost, and morale to achieve positive results.

•         Manage the workload and activities of team leaders and  employees to ensure quality parts are delivered on-time at the lowest possible cost, ensuring safety at every step.

•         Maintain the accuracy and timely recording of inventory balances and transactions.

•         Assist in the development of internal procedures and documentation to support the manufacturing operations.

•         Identify, prioritize, and assist in the implementation of improvement projects or system enhancements, which result in efficiency improvements, quality improvements, and/or cost savings.

•         Provide other departments with the necessary production or quality information necessary to carry out their assigned responsibilities.

•         Assure that the duties, responsibilities and authority of each job function is clearly defined and communicated to the appropriate personnel.

•         Analyze appropriate staffing levels and recommend the hiring or releasing of personnel in accordance with staffing requirements and Company policy.

•         Identify training and development needs of staff, and initiate appropriate programs.

•         Maintain adherence to Company policies, safety standards and good housekeeping practices.

•         Conduct necessary performance reviews, establishing appropriate accountabilities and goals.

•         Perform other duties as assigned.


•         Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain or Business plus 3 – 5 years of prior production supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting

•         Demonstrated change management around building cultures of safety and of continuous improvement mindset in production

•         Good background in the area of team building, along with the ability to develop, implement and maintain a fully functional team environment.

•         Sound administrative and managerial skills, along with excellent communication, supervision and people skills.

•         Working knowledge of computerized databases, spreadsheet software to manage production and inventory controlfillin
