Job Description

ITW Specialty Films designs, manufactures and markets specialized coated and/or metalized films for the Transaction Card, Security Documents, Medical IV bags, and Consumer Packaging markets. The division leverages unique core competencies and technologies in films, foils, laminates, holography and transfers to address customer needs globally. Operates in 13 locations (NA, EU, Asia).

 

Position Summary:

Assists, recommends, and implements projects that support 80/20 initiatives such as; operational process control, quality improvement, plant efficiency, supplier development, safety improvement, and new product development controls / process development. Assist with the ISO/Quality management system by maintaining plant conformance and participating in various audits. May lead or project manage entire projects.

 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


§  Under direction of the Engineering Manager, work on projects to improve plant profitability through scrap reduction, process efficiency, quality improvement and optimization of new products for successful commercialization.


§  Conducts internal process capability studies to learn manufacturing and product limitations.


§  Though design of experiments, Gauge R and R, and data analysis, researches new technologies and processes applicable to improving the manufacture of key products.


§  Create Process Flow Diagrams and Process Maps for existing and new processes.


§  Under direction, assists in preparation of trials based on evaluation of formula or process to determine root cause or improve efficiency or product consistency.


§  Under direction, collect, correlate and analyze data evaluating experiments, production trends and linking product quality and claims. 


§  Assist in conducting field evaluations, lab analysis, and baseline studies to provide data for improvements on customer’s product failures leading to reduced concessions.


§  Assist Chemists in process tasks related to new product development manufacturing.


§  Assist Quality Control with root cause analysis of customer complaint issues, utilizing the 8D approach.


§  Occasional travel to customer sites to gather data, support sales, troubleshoot process problems.


§  Recommend controls/improvements to products and processes to improve operational performance and customer satisfaction based on product quality and consistency.


§  Work with plant personnel on improving/reducing operations issues affecting ink/coating preparation, manufacturing/finishing, and warehousing.


§  Participate in process development/optimization teams for key new products.


§  Research outside resources (e.g. vendors, raw material suppliers, consultants) who can support evaluation and/or implementation of optimized processes.


§  Assist with ISO duties … site and vendor audits, ensuring product compliance to standard, etc.


§  Work safely, follow all OSHA and company regulations and procedures.


 


 


Job Requirements

Skills and Qualifications:


BS in ChE or related degree.  Minimum 2-4 years experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment using tools such as 80/20, Six Sigma, Kaizen, etc. to improve quality and productivity.  Some experience and/or training with manufacturing processes and unit operations used in the chemical/film industry.  Strong analytical ability and logical problem-solving skills. Knowledge of techniques for improving scrap reduction, automated process equipment up-time improvements, lead time reductions, etc.  Good communication, and analytical skills.  Proficient in MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. Prefer candidates with Six Sigma Green Belt Certification with organic chemistry formulation, working knowledge of computer aided drafting and working knowledge of SharePoint Designer / workflows a plus.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:


·       Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

·       Limited physical effort required.

·       Limited exposure to physical risk.
