Job Description

ITW Powertrain Metals Division serves major tier suppliers with tightly toleranced and innovative components for the automotive and industrial markets totaling approximately $300M in revenues globally. The Division holds  a  leadership position in North America and a growing presence in Europe. The division also supports ITW initatives for our facility in China.
The division drives profitability by leveraging its innovative solutions,  design engineering and global footprint.  

Assists with determining the methods, controls and quality standards required for processing, fabrication and assembly of products by reviewing parts drawings, specifications, and other engineering data. May develop sequence of operations, estimate time requirements for each, and prepare operation sheets. Prepares basic, simple analyses to evaluate quality and cost effectiveness and has readily available guidance. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 1 year of experience.


1.0  Position Objective:  

To oversee and drive the management of all engineering functions and continuous improvement activities as a result of either internally designated projects or customer-driven expectations in assigned location. Supervises a small team of professional engineers to manage projects related to company product or processes, including budgeting, cost estimation, developing project timelines and goals, evaluating prototypes against requirements and transitioning projects to manufacturing or seeing through completion.


2.0  Essential Functions:

  1. Oversee the management of the local Engineering team, working with and supporting production, tool room, quality, maintenance, and other applicable departments within the facility.
  2. Prioritize, assign and monitor timely completion of all projects focusing on the key business impact and net cost impact of the project.
  3. Direct advanced quality planning efforts, focusing on potential high risk failure modes and methods to avoid future potential quality issues.
  4. Coordinate responsibility for product introduction and project management activities.
  5. Lead productivity and continuous improvement initiatives.
  6. Propose and support capital expenditure requests providing proper justification to support the business.
  7. Report project status on a regular basis to management and other key personnel.
  8. Act as a customer representative, when necessary, regarding all aspects of customer satisfaction.
  9. Review department training needs and determine the necessary/proper training required.
  10. Establish departmental goals and objectives for each of the above areas.
  11. Develop departmental personnel through cross training, goal setting, education, and employee involvement.
  12. Adhere to corporate policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned or directed.


3.0  Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 3 - 5 years managerial experience within the automotive industry, preferably deep drawn stamping.
  • 3 - 5 years of automation and manufacturing experience within the automotive industry preferred
  • Thorough working knowledge of IATF 16949, GD&T, SPC, PPAP, FMEA, DOE, and 8-D problem solving.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and management skills.
  • Have a proven track record in process improvements, cost reduction, and employee development.
