ITW Covid (Cranbury, NJ) is a member of the ITW Specialty Films division of Illinois Tool Works Inc. (ITW), a Fortune 200 global multi-industrial manufacturing leader, and is part of the Specialty Products Segment.  ITW Specialty Films designs, manufactures and markets specialized coated and/or metalized films for the Transaction Card, Security Documents, Medical IV bags, and Consumer Packaging markets. The division leverages unique core competencies and technologies in films, foils, laminates, holography and transfers to address customer needs globally. The Division has operation in North America and Europe.

As Operations Manager at ITW Covid, you will direct and coordinate the safe manufacturing activities, continuous improvement, and strategy for the facility to obtain optimum efficiency and capacity of operation.  You will lead and manage the manufacturing teams to ensure timely delivery of products that meet customers’ requirements, in quantities that fulfill sales demand and ensure lowest cost, to maximize profitability and growth consistent with ITW objectives.  The role directly manages the production manager, quality and materials teams. 

 

What you will do:

  • Drive the Health and Safety agenda by executing the Safety Management System and driving a proactive safety culture to achieve/sustain zero incidents.  Lead by example and engage the team to establish a safety-first culture, ensuring that people leaders are competent and have sufficient information, instruction, training and resources.  Build a culture of reporting accidents, near misses, investigating incidents, identifying hazards, and implementing control measures to prevent occurrences.
  • Optimize plant performance to support the business’ core customer-centric value propositions of quality and lead time
  • Actively analyze Key Performance Indicators for operation and adjust/implement lean manufacturing and quality processes and systems leveraging ITW Toolbox – PLS, 80/20, etc., lean principals, 5S and related world class manufacturing improvement techniques/framework to produce optimum operational excellence and P&L improvement

  • Gain an expertise on the ITW Business Model and drive business results through utilization of the tools and empowerment of others.  Drive conversion cost improvements, particularly on ‘80’ products.  Lead with a division-first mindset and influences peers around the 80/20 business model.  Manage the ‘20’ to minimize noise and identifying strategic opportunities to treat ‘20’ differently.  Develop and executes strategy based around our ‘80’ products and customers to enable business to grow.
  • Review complaints involving products manufactured and take necessary steps to make corrections
  • Consult with Manufacturing, Sales, and Innovation & Marketing team members to review and resolve any problems relating to quality, cost, or major orders of a sensitive nature.
  • Prepare a Production operating budget for review, approval, and inclusion by the Global Operations Director in a consolidated divisional budget. Conduct activities of the department to maintain conformance to budgetary limitations and reviews monthly variance statements with the Controller to identify areas for improvement. Review annual and long-range plan of the division and directs the department activities to achieve these objectives.
  • Recommend, through Capital Expenditure process, the purchase of new equipment after compiling justification data. Review various types of equipment with qualifying characteristics, appraises their capabilities, and recommends to the Global Operations Director purchase of selected equipment
  • Ensure procedures are in place and current for all operational processes in conformance with ISO and 5S.
  • Ensure inventory of stock is maintained in accordance with ITW policies, stock accuracy, MOH and grading concerns.
  • Assure organic growth is supported via owning local capacity planning/utilization for the ‘80’
  • Proactively support customer back innovation programs & NPI
  • Oversee resource allocation for local sourcing & supply chain, maintenance, shipping & receiving etc.
  • Conduct external scan to identify new technology, trends and obsolescence threats and develops strategies to advance competitiveness
  • Design the supply chain to support strategic customer-facing metrics
  • Instill a culture of continuous improvement using all available resources with attention to employee involvement
  • Champion the ITW Leadership Development framework, developing talent within the location.  Identifies and develops key leaders for future roles.
  • Resolve personnel problems in conjunction with appropriate supervisor and Human Resources, and take action in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned

Job Requirements

What skills, abilities and experience we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related manufacturing or management discipline, such as mechanical, chemical or industrial engineering, or business management
  • 5-7 years of work experience in a manufacturing leadership role is preferred
  • Excellent time management and prioritization abilities, and strong project management skills
  • Ability to develop and implement strategies
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement techniques.  Ability to learn, understand and execute ITW Business Model
  • Strong business analytical skills, with an 80/20 mindset
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations to assess capacity, volume trends and future state needs
  • Solid financial abilities including working knowledge of budgeting, sales, and business development
  • Exceptional track record of developing and implementing operational plans to improve efficiency
  • Ability to manage complexity and change
  • Accurate and precise attention to detail
  • Is highly knowledgeable about the manufacturing process and the local, state, regional and national regulatory climate (EHS)
  • Demonstrated ability to make tough business and leadership decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and presentation skills
  • Ability to generate respect and trust from staff and external constituencies along with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a results-driven, team-oriented environment
  • Personally driven and motivates others to excel
  • Ability to identify and develop future leaders/managers
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel)
  • Willing to travel < 10%, some international may be required
