Job Description

This position purchases and arranges timely deliveries of assigned items, supplies, and materials; expedites as needed and acts as liaison between vendors and users, getting prior approval for purchases in excess of established limit. Material Technician will monitor and modify common usage components, materials, supplies and services.  Recommends changes in purchasing procedures to improve service and/or reduce costs.  Assist with the vendor/ supplier management initiatives to ensure compliance with ITW and MIG Gun Division policies and procedures. This position reports to the Supply Chain Manager.

Job Requirements

  • Acts as a liaison and communication link between manufacturing teams and suppliers. 
  • Responsible for updating files, reports and Dataflo with interdepartmental used data.
  • Effectively resolves quality and delivery issues. 
  • Performs returns, NCNs, cycle counts and Engineering material change updates, which ultimately affect the supplier. 
  • Expedites open purchase orders by checking records, calling vendors to obtain material status and relaying the information to the proper departments
  • Participates in materials management improvement projects using the 'toolbox'. 
  • Computer skills such as Microsoft Office Suites and maneuvering through multiple streams of data. 
  • Additional personal qualities include:  good communicator, interpersonal skills, leadership, organizational skills, positive attitude and a team player.   
  • This position is responsible for estimating material requirements (quantity and order date) for materials needed to meet the master production schedule. 
  • Understanding of complex operating systems and process flows
  • Responsible for the purchasing of inventoried parts needed in production plan.  
  • May occasionally source new vendors for smaller dollar purchases and handles more complex quality/delivery issues. 
  • Acts as a backup for Materials Coordinator

 

 Skills and Experience Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education is preferred plus 3-5 years of experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding of MRD principles.
  • Good communication skills, approachable, cordial.
  • Familiarity/experience with purchasing procedures.
  • Ability to learn/maneuver within the Purchasing module of DataFlo.
  • Knowledge of materials planning.
