Job Title: Maintenance Technician Location: Machesney Park, IL
POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs a variety of general maintenance duties which include electrical and mechanical in the maintenance and repair of cold-forming industrial machines and equipment.


  • Tests and repairs malfunctioning production equipment/machinery and notifies appropriate personnel
  • Install equipment, machines, or programs to meet specifications
  • Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determine what maintenance is needed
  • Align machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, and micrometers
  • Assemble and install equipment using hand and power tools
  • Uses welding skills/equipment (TIG, Stick, Torch) to fabricate and repair chutes, conveyors, hoppers, etc.
  • Basic knowledge to use, Milling Machine, Brake press, Drill press, and general machine shop equipment to modify dies, reels, Metal parts.
  • Repair machinery a lathe, mill, drill press, and other tools as required.
  • Maintains current knowledge and actively addresses safety and environmental issues.
  • Other duties may include: janitorial, plumbing, pipefitting, painting, security, carpentry.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • High School diploma required
  • Associates degree from a Technical College preferred
  • Apprenticeship or Journeyman experience preferred
  • Ability to complete basic mathematical calculations
  • Forklift Truck Experience required
  • 3-5+ years maintenance experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to complete routine production and quality reports.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Understanding and compliance with safety rules and regulations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of proper safety techniques and procedures while using chemicals,power tools, hand tools and equipment; knowledge of proper lifting techniques; ability to operate heavy equipment; understanding of methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair and electrical work; ability to properly perform basic welding; knowledge of department and college policies, procedures, and practices with the ability to answer work related questions; and/or interpret and apply these guidelines correctly in various situations. Ability to use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely;understanding of building codes, preferably “International Building Code” (IBC). Ability to learn and apply proper maintenance procedures and use of equipment and supplies. Ability to follow procedures installing, testing, operating, or repairing machinery or technology systems.Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices and Safety Data Sheets. Knowledge of college/department emergency procedures. Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions. Ability to perform work independently.COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with employees. Ability to interact and communicate effectively in a tactful and courteous manner with a variety of people, including students, employees, faculty and the general public.Ability to manage interpersonal conflict situations requiring tact, diplomacy and discretion; ability to verbalize understanding of a problem or situation, ask relevant questions for clarification, and explain it to others. Occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays. Frequently exposed to hot and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat.
