Job Description

Field Applications Engineer

Instron® is a global organization that designs, manufactures, sells and services materials testing systems. Instron is a clear global leader in materials testing applications and its leadership in the marketplace is continually expanding. You will find that our established strength, commitment to our core values and team focus provides an engaging work environment and offers exceptional opportunities for personal and career development.

Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly-responsive, goal-oriented Field Application Engineer to join our North American Sales Team as part of our Sales Development Program. This position is responsible for supporting Instron’s range of advanced materials testing systems and accessories. Our customers use Instron’s products to test a wide range of materials such as metals, plastics and composites within a diverse range of industries including biomedical, aerospace, electronics and automotive. Our systems can be found in quality control, research and development and educational laboratories throughout the world.

In this role you will spend at least a year in the Instron Sales Development Program, working at our global headquarters in the greater Boston area, where you will work closely with the Inside Sales Group and Applications Laboratory to learn all of the technical and commercial aspects of the operation and the applications of Instron products. During this time you will work closely with the Field Sales Engineering Team to assist with pre- and post-sale applications consulting, provide onsite product demonstrations and presentations to customers and gain valuable experience in sales support and business development. This position shares accountability with the Field Sales Engineering Team for achieving sales goals and maintaining the highest levels of customer satisfaction. To assist you in exceeding the sales targets, you will be partnered with an established sales and service support team.

Ultimately, the Sales Development Program will prepare you to take full responsibility for your own sales territory as a Field Sales Engineer within the continental United States. Overnight travel is estimated to be up to 50%.

Requirements

Successful applicants will be highly self-motivated and have a technical Bachelor’s Degree (e.g. materials science or mechanical/electrical/biomedical/chemical engineering) combined with some work experience. Previous technical sales experience preferred, but not required.

Additional requirements include:
  • A strong desire to learn and a passion for technology.
  • A positive attitude focused on understanding, anticipating and responding to the needs of our customers, both internal and external to the organization.
  • Key leadership qualities, including flexibility, reliability, strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Exceptionally self-motivated and directed with a strong track record of effective time-management.
  • A willingness and ability to relocate to a major metropolitan area anywhere in the United States upon completion of the Instron Sales Development Program.

Take this opportunity to join a successful and enthusiastic global team where you can make a significant impact immediately. Enjoy a competitive salary and generous benefits that includes health, dental, life and LTD insurance, 401k (with match), and a 100% tuition reimbursement program. Instron is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. We employ, train, compensate and promote regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, veteran status, and other protected status as required by applicable law.
