ITW Residential and Renovation currently has an opening for an Engineering Technician in its Lake Forest, IL facility to support the engineering team, conduct fastening system testing,  conduct quality audits for various fastener products and maintain the prohesion and salt spray chambers in the chem-mix room for environmental testing.

Core Responsibilities

Conduct truss plate fastening systems testing, print necessary blueprints, interpret blueprints for required materials. Make exact measurements with a measuring tape based on outlined dimensions of lumber lengths prescribed in drawings. Cut lumber with table saw and operate Mighty Mite to assemble lumber components.  Gather measured deflection data and put into provided data sheet.  Communicate immediate results via text, telephone or email to supporting engineer.

Conduct fastener systems quality audits in support of fastener production for various fastener products and Alpine plates on a monthly basis. Collect appropriate data using measuring instruments and enter data into excel spreadsheets.  Come to statistical and logical comparative conclusion based on the products specs.

Maintain the prohesion and salt spray chambers in the chem-mix room in support of the engineer’s environmental testing of fasteners. Keep all lab facilities clean and tidy using 5S methods.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required. 2 years Technical Degree preferred, 3-5 years’ experience.

Mechanically inclined; technical skills or knowledge in position; keeping up with current developments and trends in area of expertise.

Solid computer skills in Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, and Outlook email

Excellent written and communication skills.

Able to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
