Job Description

The ITW Fluids North America Division is seeking a Director of Operations to provide overall direction, strategy, and planning for the division’s manufacturing facilities.  Based out of Olathe, Kansas, the ITW Fluids Division encompasses five facilities in the United States and is a division of Illinois Tool Works, a Fortune 150 company.  Products manufactured in the division are global leading brands in the MRO, Aerospace, Institutional, Food Service and Auto OEM industries.  


As a Division functional leader, incumbent will report to the Vice President / General Manager and manage the Plant Managers at each facility.  The Director of Operations, in partnership with the Plant Managers, will have overall responsibility for manufacturing operations at each facility to include manufacturing, shipping/receiving, quality, regulatory, EHS, maintenance, strategic sourcing and customer service.  


Manufacturing facilities within the Division are located in Olathe, Kansas; Tucker, Georgia; DeWitt, Iowa and Easton, Maryland.  A lab is located in Carol Steam, Illinois.


Core Responsibilities

• Provide strategic planning and direction to enhance the profitability, productivity and efficiency of the division’s manufacturing operations.  

• Establish each facility’s manufacturing operations’ goals and provide guidelines for effective resource utilization.

• Develop and execute facility Operations plans to include long range plans and Division / Corporate plans and initiatives.

• Oversee the direction of the development, planning, implementation and maintenance of ITW operating philosophies for new or existing products, processes and technologies.

• Champion ITW toolbox initiatives for manufacturing operations.

• Direct and report on performance against operational metrics. 

• Direct Strategic Sourcing initiatives for the division.

• Direct operation’s systems, processes and plans to ensure products conform to established customer and company quality standards.

• Ensures efficiency in supply chain management.

• Drives excellence in customer service.

• Coordinate and manage major capital projects for each facility.  

• Promote a smooth and efficient cooperation between Product Development, Sales, Marketing, Finance and Production to ensure simple and cost effective production of new product start-ups or changes to existing product lines.   

• Interact closely with Sales & Marketing to ensure efficiency, flexibility and market responsiveness.

• Ensure work, quality, safety, health and environmental compliance is included as part of everyday activities. 

• Utilize leadership to build culture of continuous improvement.

• Work collaboratively with Human Resources and plant management to nurture and develop the division’s culture and embracement of core values with operations employees.

• Foster a learning environment and develops others. Provide coaching, performance reviews to direct reports, and employee development.  

• Encourage communication and cooperation across departments and other facilities.

• Other duties as assigned.

• Frequent travel required to visit each facility on a regular basis.


Job Requirements

Qualifications/ Requirements

• Minimum 10 years manufacturing management experience with a track record of strong leadership and success.  

• Bachelor degree in a technical field, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent preferred.

• Demonstrated skills with project management tools and methodologies

• Experience in managing an integrated facility with all business aspects from formulations to the shipping of the product, as well as knowledge of ERP systems, GMP, regulatory requirements, EHS, quality requirements, inventory management, strategic sourcing, and lean manufacturing practices.  

• Experienced in managing multiple manufacturing facilities

• Well versed in process control, lean manufacturing and change management

• A thorough understanding of quality systems

• An understanding of customer service practices and procedures

• Fluent in the use of Microsoft Office programs and Outlook.  

• Effective communication skills and the ability to connect and influence employees at all levels.       Collaborative. 

• Proven success in building strong teams, developing talent, and managing performance based systems.

• Able to lead people and get results through others.

• Be a strategic visionary with technical skills, yet keen to details necessary to meet objectives.

• Able to work with little or no supervision.  

• Possess an excellent work ethic.
