Commodity Manager - Norwood, MA  
 
The commodity manager will be responsible for purchasing and strategic sourcing functions of a variety of mechanical components for production and R&D for Instron North America. Majority focus will be on metals commodity parts such as fabricated metal (machined) parts,
sheetmetal and some hardware and MRO items. Parts are of complex in nature and at the highest quality levels.
 
Primary duties and responsibilities
  • Analysis of parts that flow through as requisitions from planner(s) evaluate and act as necessary
  • Update and review supplier agreements to ensure best cost is achieved through long term planning
  • Plan and execute strategic vendor management on low performing suppliers; Exit strategy or alternate plans to improve quality and delivery
  • Review of inventory parts and analytics to ensure parts are planned to the optimal levels to satisfy
  • Own supplier quality for the core vendors related to mechanical category so doing quarterly business reviews and making improvements
  • Data analytics on spend management and cost savings projects in related to the commodity
  • Work on special projects such as Kanban inventory replenishment, part planning adjustments for inventory optimization, supplier score card systems, new product development in collaboration with engineering
 
Skills required
  • Bachelor’s or higher degree or equivalent work experience (8+)
  • Must be proficient in advance Excel and ability to demonstrate (Pivot tables, VLOOKUP, sorting, arithmetic formulae)
  • Must be familiar with an updated ERP system (SAP, JDE, IFS, Microsoft Dynamics or similar)
  • KanBan inventory knowledge is a plus
  • Knowledge of the ITW Tool-box or projects based on the 80/20 principle is a plus
  • Problem solving skills and project management skills to take a project from start to finish
  • Analytical skills on analyzing data sets related to parts, vendors, spend
  • Prior experience on supplier quality performance measurement and improvements is a plus
  •  May require domestic travel to suppliers and other Instron sites (30-40%)
