M&C SPECIALTIES, a business within the Pressure Sensitive Adhesive & Components division of Illinois Tool Works (ITW) located in Southampton, PA, is searching for an innovative, energetic, and driven Applications Engineer to join our team. The successful applicant will partner with customers to develop new and improve existing applications that best serve our customers and are consistent our strategic objectives.

Position Summary:  The Applications Engineer is responsible for product requirement design and documentation including material selection, process optimization, and customer presentation for the fabrication of specialty die cut components with a focus on the healthcare, electronics, and automotive end markets.

Primary Job Responsibilities: 

• Assume the lead role in evaluating customer needs and developing solutions that can meet their needs and be integrated with their existing process

• Create presentations for key customer contacts to communicate solutions and their benefits during the development phase and offer design alternatives, process capabilities, and volume adjustments as needed

• Assemble accurate cost estimates for new projects and monitoring performance to estimates on existing products

• Document manufacturing information for finished products, including work instructions, drawings, and support tools

• Appraise technological developments and investigate feasibility of new techniques

• Support sales team as a process and material selection, cost, and capability expert

• Produce technical, process, and customer drawings using CAD software

• Perform tooling design while considering and optimizing tolerances, costing, and customer requirements

• Collaborate with purchasing department to optimize and consolidate spend activity

• Collaborate with production on training needs, machine setup, and process improvements

• Maintain historic records of R&D and production trials and document results pertaining to materials, machinery, tooling, process variations, and resulting outputs

Job Requirements

·       Ability to generate, read, and interpret 2D and 3D drawings and specifications

·       Outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills to help gain the trust, respect, and credibility of individuals at all levels within the business as well as customers and suppliers.

·       Excellent analysis, planning, and implementation skills

·       Strong experience with documentation and technical writing

·       Solid computer skills (Microsoft Office)

·       Exposure to Six Sigma Process Excellence tools and / or Lean Manufacturing along with ability to identify trends

·       Commitment to safety and supporting an accident-free workplace



       Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline
