Job Description

Alloy Operator

Reports to: Production Supervisor                                       Shift: M-Th 4:00 am – 2:30 pm

Responsibilities: The Alloy Operator is responsible for utilizing production equipment in accordance to the specified work instructions and procedures for the alloying process. The candidate will be responsible for their respective equipment and tools and will have complete ownership of the quality for their products.  The essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

·         Handle all aspects of the alloy process including:

o   Follow detailed process control sheet for proper pot temperatures, proper weight of raw metals/rework, and mixing time.

o   Combine all rework material, and ensure all alloys are properly segregated

o   Follow work instructions and procedures pertaining to loading the pot

o   Maintain the proper pot temperature while loading the pot

o   Follow work instructions and procedure for QC sample collection for approval

o   Pour material out of the pot and into the cavity mold

o   Perform skimming process and removal of slugs from cavity mold

o   Identify alloy slugs after pouring process

o   Maintain accurate documentation of the weight of slugs, shimming rework, and dross for inventory accuracy

o   Flip slugs (weighing 140 – 300 lbs.) from steel plate to wooden skid.

·         Follow exact process procedures and work instructions including Response Flow Checklist

·         Identify and track all dedicated tools in accordance with best 5S practices and maintain equipment cleanliness

·         Support and follow production targets for in-process and final goods

·         Participate in weekly stand-up meetings

·         Consult with team lead on production schedule

·         Act as a technical resource during root cause analysis

·         Complete and maintain all process records including process control charts and Preventive Maintenance checklists

·         Support and adhere to all ISO quality procedures

·         Maintain training records and training logs

·         Cross train on other departmental functions and assist in the cross-training of co-workers 

·         Comply with all quality and safety rules and regulations

·         Additional duties and tasks as assigned

Job Requirements


·         High School diploma or GED

·         Minimum 1-2 years manufacturing experience in manufacturing environment.   

·         Quality focused with strong attention to detail

·         Ability to read and interpret work process procedures

·         Ability to apply basic math skills including addition, subtraction, grams and ounces

·         Must be computer literate

·         Must possess strong communication skills and be able to work well in a team and/or individually

·         Able to lift and/or move up to 80 lbs. frequently throughout the day

·         Able to load 12,000 and 4,000 lb. pots within a 10-hour day

·         Able to work in extreme heat environment

·         Work overtime including weekends, and different hours when necessary

·         Must be able to work in a warm/hot area all day

·         Forklift experience preferred
