Located in Carol Stream, IL, the Mechanical Engineer II will work with the engineering team to provide mechanical design of standard and automated equipment to customers of the Industrial Decorating Solutions Group.


  • Conceptualize, design and detail complex, multi-station automated systems, machinery components and machinery modifications to both company and customer specifications utilizing SolidWorks as main design tool. This includes project coordination with Controls Engineer to review electronic requirements of the project as well as any customer specified components.
  • Apply broad knowledge of technical principles, procedures and practices to define product concepts, design layouts, bills of material, detail drawings and system performance evaluation criteria.
  • Interpret customer requirements, identify and address design parameters and engineering problems and ensure solutions are implemented accurately and in budget.
  • Monitor and regularly report on project schedules by reviewing design status, part procurement, assembly/debug status, etc. Coordinate information flow to/from customer including drawings, specifications, parts, product samples, etc.
  • Participate in project kick-offs and lead design review meetings with customers as required.
  • Specify and/or recommend components and suppliers where engineered content is involved. Ensure all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are observed for all work completed.
  • Meet or exceed project budgets, including material & labor costs, schedule milestones and deadlines.
  • Resolve operational problems related to projects and minimize delays or unexpected cost increases.
  • Test, troubleshoot, and debug designs, lead pilot runs and customer acceptance trials where applicable.
  • Participate in writing and/or creation of system documentation packages.
  • Assist in the development and refinement of mechanical engineering design standards and documentation control.
  • Provide support to Applications Group including conceptualization, technical information, time & cost estimates, etc. to aid in the creation of accurate quotes on machinery and systems.
  • Travel to troubleshoot issues at customer sites and/or provide pre- & post-sales support as required.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.



Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar technical discipline) or equivalent experience


  • Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years related job experience in mechanical engineering design from concept through production of custom automated machinery systems.
  • Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years experience and proficiency with SolidWorks required.
  • Working knowledge of drafting standards and GD&T strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of drives design (Including but not limited to dial, in-line, over-under, walking beam etc.), pneumatics and fixture design strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems and design integration with HMI’s, PLC’s and electrical schematics preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong creative problem solving, self-motivation, prioritization, communications (written and verbal), technical writing skills and a team player.
